Radiography - Associate of Applied Science Degree
The Radiography program at Sanford Brown College-Cleveland (SBC) is designed to prepare students to perform radiographic procedures and understand radiation protection, radiologic physics, and image production. Students will study principles and procedures used in professional practice, including image analysis, radiation protection, radiographic pathology, digital image acquisition and display, and radiographic testing. The core curriculum is structured to include a lecture component, an imaging laboratory component, and an integrated clinical component. The final externship portion of the curriculum consists of supervised experiences in a clinical environment, which requires competencies, logs, and evaluations completed by the student. At the conclusion of the program, graduates who have diligently attended class and their externship, studied, and practiced their skills should have the skills to seek entry-level employment as radiographers.
The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) offers certification for radiologic technologists. Currently, only graduates of a radiography program that is programmatically accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) are eligible to apply to ARRT for certification. The Radiography program at SBC is not programmatically accredited by JRCERT, and SBC can neither guarantee that the program will be accredited by JRCERT nor that students will be eligible for ARRT certification upon graduation or at any time in the future.
STATE LICENSURE/REGISTRATION INFORMATION
In Ohio, radiographers are required to carry a state license in order to practice. Since the SBC Radiography program is approved by the Ohio Department of Health, graduates of the Radiography program are eligible to apply for the state radiographer license examination without being ARRT certified. All state licensure/registration requirements are controlled by the individual states and are subject to change without notice to SBC. Therefore, SBC cannot guarantee that graduates will be eligible to work as a radiographer in Ohio or in any other state without ARRT certification and/or a state license/registration, at all or at any specific time, regardless of their eligibility status upon enrollment.
Mission
The mission of Sanford-Brown College Radiography Program is to provide a quality, highly specialized educational program in the field of radiography to adult learners. The focused radiography program will provide the knowledge necessary for successful passing of the certification exam and for future employment in imaging.
Program Goals
- The graduates will have entry-level employment skills as a radiographer.
- The graduates will be clinically competent.
- The graduates will apply critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills during radiographic procedures.
- The graduates will demonstrate professional growth and development skills.
